National Bank of Dubai
Founded in 1963, NBD is the oldest locally incorporated bank in the southern Gulf. It operates 33 branches and pay offices in the UAE, a fully automated branch in Grand Cineplex, one branch in London and a representative office in Tehran.
In
2002, net profits totaled AED 569 million (USD 155 million) with total assets of
AED 35.16 billion (USD 9.57 billion). NBD has been awarded the Best Bank in the
UAE -2002 by The Banker magazine. NBD plays a major role in funding Government
infrastructure developments and its portfolio covers a wide area including
transport, real estate, construction, manufacturing, tourism, government and
service industries.
The
Bank pioneered the first stand-alone ATM in the UAE in 1986. Today, customers
can withdraw cash and pay utility bills through a network of more than 95 ATMs
as well as utilize the Point of Sale terminals installed at a large number of
hotels and stores. The Bank's card portfolio includes Visa Premier and Classic,
and Gold and Standard MasterCard Cards. Card benefits include a Saver's card
offering discounts at various retail outlets, a Webs hopper card, Roadside Auto
Assistance, free supplementary cards and a utility bill payment facility.
The
Bank established its Private Banking service - 'The Private Office' -in order to
assist clients in defining their strategic goals and offer specialized and
tailored solutions to professionally manage, grow, safeguard and diversify the
future of family wealth.
NBD
uses the latest available technologies. It launched its website in June 1998.
The Bank also introduced a highly developed PC-based service, NBD Online, and in
May 2000 its internet-based e-commerce service, NBD Paynet, was made available
to merchants in the UAE. The Bank has recently launched NBD Mobile, an SMS-based
service. NBD employs more than 1,100 people drawn from 29 countries, and is
proud that nearly 30% of its workforce are UAE nationals.
In
its recognition of leading national institutions and the active role they play
in supporting our national economy, Emirates Post is issuing a collection of
commemorative stamps in 3 denominations (50 Fils, 4 Dirhams and 6 Dirhams) on
the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of the National Bank of Dubai
