10th
Anniversary of Dubai International Holy Quran Award
The Dubai
International Holy Quran Award was established in 1997 (1418 Hijri) under the
directive of HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid AI Maktoum, Vice President
& Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The
initiative was launched with two categories, the International Holy Quran
Contest and Islamic Personality. Subsequently, six new branches were introduced:
the Holy Quran Local Contest, the Inmate Holy Quran memorization unit, the
Lecture Program, the UAE National Memorizer Program, the Quran Memorization
Centers Supervision Program, the Centre for Quranic Studies and Quranic Studies
Program.
The Award is
managed by a committee called the Dubai International Holy Quran Organizing
Committee. This committee pursues the Award's objectives through seven sub-committees:
the technical committee, the media unit, the administrative & financial
unit, the activities unit, the public relations unit, the studies &
programs unit and the Quranic studies unit.
The
objectives of the Award are:
1- To raise the standards of
Quranic knowledge in terms of memorization, recitation and the application of
the Holy Quran values in our daily life
2- To highlight the Islamic
identity of the UAE
3- To affirm
Islamic values and their importance in our lives
4- To honor
personalities or institutions providing outstanding services to Islam around
the world.
5- To
publish books that cater to Quranic scholarships.
6- To
organise conferences and seminars.
Winners of the
Dubai International Holy Quran Award receive monetary prizes as well as
certificates of appreciation. All participants also receive cash prizes, in
addition to certificates of appreciation. The Award promoters also bear the
travel and accommodation costs of all contestants, the Islamic personality, the
panel of judges and guests.
In
coordination with the Organizing Committee of the Dubai International
Holy Quran
Award, Emirates Post is pleased to issue a set of commemorative stamps in
single denomination (Dh. 1) to commemorate the 10th" anniversary of the
Award.
