Archaeology (Mulaiha - Sharjah)

The importance of the archaeological discoveries which have revealed a great deal of information about the ancient history of the United Arab Emirates has increased since the first Danish archaeological mission in 1958. This was given a further impetus by the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information Directorate of Antiquities and Heritage.

Its research programmes discovered that the oldest settlement found on the western coast and II Al Hamriya" in the emirate of Sharjah dated back to 7,000 years. The archaeological discoveries in this location also showed that these were from the Al- Obaid period which known at south Mesopotamia valley. Other discoveries dated back to the 2nd and 3rd millennium B.C. were discovered in the sites of Jebel Al Amlaih, Kalba and Al Buh. In some other locations the discoveries dated from the Islamic period, the most important of which was discovered in Dibba on the eastern coast of the emirate.

However, the most significant period discovered was in "Muleiha" which was an Arabian desert settlement since the 2nd millenium B.C. It had links with the Arabian peinisula, Petra, Palmyra and some Greek islands. The city of Muleiha had also contacts with languages such as Hamirian, Aramic, Greek and Roman.
