Sports plays a significant role in strengthening the social and cultural ties between the nations. Since the first tournament of the Arab Gulf Football Championship which started in (Manama) Bahrain in 1970, the tournaments have achieved the stated goals and improved the standard of football in the Arabian Gulf countries who were able to compete in the Arab, Asian and International football tournaments. As a result of that four National teams from the Gulf countries were able to qualify to the finals of the World Football Cup.
