In1981 studies were begun on plans to reorganise the General Postal Administration. Ministry of communications. and rename it the General Postal Authority, The special law for setting up the General Postal Authority was drawn up after agreement with the National Federal Council, and the members of the Supreme Council, Federal Decree, number 4, 1985, was then issued establishing the General Postal Authority which commenced its duties with effect from 1 April of that year, The General Postal! Authority is the sole body responsible for postal services, and is recognised as legally competent and thereby empowered to achieve its aims.
The future plans of the Authority include the introduction of new postal services. and increasing the number of post offices in the country.
