Camels

The camel, affectionately called "Ship of the Desert", has gained great respect among the Arab people. The camel has been an integral part of desert life and survival. And the close relationship between the camel and the owner is remarkable one, as the camel withstands and resist thirsty and the hot climate of the desert.

Camels are divided into two types: the Arabian camels with one hump which is found in Arab countries, Africa, India and Australia. Its body is narrow, strong and fast. The other type is of two humps and is found in Siberia and Mangolia.

The Arabian camels are divided in three types: Racing camels, Riding camels and Domestic camels. These types are different in speed, features, size and uses.

There were old traditions in UAE where as camel racings were held in certain occasions and the winners were awarded the prizes and the first prize was considered as a great honour.

Those races are different from the ones which are organised today as new systems and regulations has been made in order to control these races and provide fair chances to all participants.

His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan AI Nahyan, President of the U .A.E. have devoted special attention to the camel. Due to his efforts, U.A.E. reached an advanced level in this field on the Arab world and specially in the Gulf where the races are an added attraction for the visitors.
