2nd Gathering – Scouting and Belonging

The 2nd International Gathering on Scouting and Belonging promotes friendship among youth of the world under a single umbrella, and projects the progressive face of the United Arab Emirates. The theme celebrates the contribution of scouting in promoting the spirit of belonging globally.  

Hosting the events:  

The 2nd International Gathering of Scouts is being hosted under the directions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed AI-Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the UAE and Ruler of Sharjah under the theme "Scouting and Belonging", as per the following details:

Event Name: 2nd International Gathering -Scouting and Belonging.

Period: Friday, April 1, 2005 to Saturday, April 9, 2005

Place: The scout camp -AI-Badea District.  

Emirate: Sharjah  

Country: United Arab Emirates 

Organizers:

The gathering is organized by the 'Arabian Region Scout Office" in co-operation with Emirates Scout Society (Sharjah Office) and five scout regions (African, Asian, European, Euro -Asian and American).

Objectives of the Gathering:

  • To highlight the United Arab Emirates as a country that promotes a sense of belonging among people of different nationalities.   
  • To highlight the importance of the Scouting movement and spirit of belonging.   
  • To highlight the role of the Scouting movement in promoting a global dialogue and identifying models of belonging.   
  • To exchange experiences between participants through different activities.   

Conditions for Participation: 

  • Age: 18 -22 years.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Participant's name to be routed through respective national scouts societies.  

 

The participant shouldn't have attended any heritage, cultural, environmental or any such event organized by the Arabian region, so as to give a chance to other youths.  

Hosts Responsibilities:

The Government of Sharjah will host all the participants. However, the Arabian region will handle the task of coordination with the societies and other scouts regional offices.

The programme:   

  • A lecture on how scouting promotes belonging. 
  • Official opening ceremony of the "Sharjah Scout Camp."
  • Visits to the main landmarks and museums in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Review of the service models that the scouts can do for the community.
  • Practicing scouting activities (discovering, adventures and travel).
