His Highness Sheikh Kahlifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the eldest son of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder and builder of the United Arab Emirates. 

His Highness was born in 1948 in Al Ain. As he grew up, he held several positions of leadership in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

In September 18, 1966, His Highness assumed the post of Representative of the Abu Dhabi Ruler in the Eastern Region and Head of the Region's Courts. 

As of February 1, 1969, His Highness became Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, with the blessings of all members of the Al Nahyan family and the public. 

His Highness presided over the Abu Dhabi Department of Defence on February 2, 1969, and played a key role in strengthening the Abu Dhabi Defence Force and making it the core of the UAE Army. 

On July 1, 1971, His Highness became Head of the Abu Dhabi Council of Ministers and Ministers of Defense and Finance. 

After the formation of the Federation, and consequently the Federal Cabinet, His Highness assumed the position of Deputy Prime Minister. 

On February 20, 1974, His Highness became Head of the executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and in May 1976, the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. His Highness also became the Chairman of the Supreme Petroleum Council. 

His Highness also held the position of Chairman of the Arab Monetary Fund and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Arab Economic Development. He also assumed the post of UAE Representative to the Arab Authority for Military Production.  

His Highness endorsed the establishment of the Department of Social Services and Commercial Buildings dedicated to helping Abu Dhabi citizens. 

Following the demise of H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan AI Nahyan on November 2, 2004, His Highness became Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. 

On November 3, 2004, the Federal Supreme Council unanimously elected His Highness as the President of the United Arab Emirates and, on that day, His Highness became the Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed AI Nahyan personally attends to all matters that concern UAE citizens and extends support and care to the young generation. His Highness is fond of modern sports as well as traditional ones, particularly horsemanship, horse racing, camel racing and falconry, as these sports form an important part of the history of the UAE people.
