Volunteer work is human involvement in humanitarian work without expectation of any financial reward. The volunteer gives his personal time and effort to the service of others as a national duty.
The UN General Assembly in its 40th session in 1998 declared that December 5 would be observed as the International Volunteering Day worldwide. Since then, this decree was joined with establishing the UN system for volunteers. The UN invited all governments to promote International Volunteering Day and highlight the role of associations, corporations and volunteer organisations in working for the welfare of people in member countries.
The UAE Red Crescent plans and organises activities each year on the occasion of the International Volunteering Day in appreciation of the work done by the community of volunteers and philanthropists and to focus on standards of volunteer work in society. Volunteer work is a social duty in which an individual selflessly tries to provide relief to suffering people or individuals.
The UAE Red Crescent applauds the efforts of volunteers, philanthropists and donors and recognises the support provided for humanitarian efforts in the UAE. The Red Crescent's volunteer work reflects the strong sense of social responsibility the people of the UAE cherish as part of their social and cultural heritage.
