In December 1971, the Rulers of the United Arab Emirates raised the Union flag announcing the birth of the United Arab Emirates as an independent sovereign state.

At the beginning, seven emirates got united: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.
