Fine Arts in the United Arab Emirates have been encouraged by His Highness President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. His pioneering role as well as that of other cultural departments in the country reflect the artistic progress that has been made during the last few years which has provided the stimulus for women artists to explore and experience their country's cultural heritage and identity.
Participating in encouraging the talents of the women artists in the U.A.E., the General Postal Authority has selected the paintings of six talented, young, national women to issue a set of stamps of 50 fils each with a Souvenir Sheet of 5 Dirhams.
The Souvenir Sheet features "Maqqabis", (The Opening), painting with oil on canvas, a combined effort by the women artists under the guidance of Mrs. Tina Ahmed, a leading artist residing in Dubai. The talents of these artists have been enlightened through the activities of a group called TEBRA which was established in 1993.
