THE WORLD JUNIOR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 10TH-27TH SEPTEMBER1985  SHARJAH -U.A.E.

The U.A.E. Chess Federation has played an active role within the F.I.D.E. ranks since 1977 when it joined the World Chess Family as a full member. The Federation has already organised and hosted two Zonal Tournaments (in 1981 and 1985) and many PAN-ARAB events, beside its active National programmes, which include the yearly U.A.E. Inter- national Chess Festival.

The U.A.E. Chess Federation achieved a new important step when the previous FIDE Congress entrusted it with the organisation of the 24th World Junior Championship in 1985. This important event plays a special role in revealing young talents from all over the world. U.A.E. young star Saeed A. Saeed was third in 1983

As a constellation of young talents, the WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP serves to uncover new stars and reveal the hopes certain countries place on the future.

By hosting the 24th World Junior Champion- ship, the U.A.E. is not only upgrading its readiness to host the Chess Olympiad in 1986, but is also expressing its faith in the creative potentialities of the World Juniors when gathered in an atmosphere of fair com- petition.
