Sheikh Saeed house is located in AI-Shindagha (an old neighbourhood in Dubai) overlooking the creek. It has been established in 1896 and was once the ruler's residence and center of administration in the era of the late H.H. Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum- grandfather of the present Ruler of Dubai H.H. Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The house is a symbol of Arab architecture with an area of 3600 sq. metres. It is square shaped with two floors and two big entrances. Above the house are four wind towers ( Al Barjeel ) which were a traditional way of keeping the house cool during summer months.
Further more, the restoration of the house started during the period of the late H.H. Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum and ended in 1986. In 1996, it has been transformed into a national museum to showcase the stages of rap- id growth and development in Dubai in the era of Al Maktoums.
