The international community, in its concern for the various categories of citizens, has through the United Nations designated March 27,1993 as the "Youth Festival" Day.
The United Arab Emirates considers the "Youth Festival" as an occasion for the youth organisations in the country to reflect the country's very special focus on the youth who are emerging to the forefront in the march to progress.
Realising the importance of the youth movement special care and assistance has been provided for them in the huge sport complexes consisting of stadiums, gymnasiums, running tracks, swimming pools and other facilities to improve their sport activities throughout the Emirates.
Similarly great interest has been taken in the youth activities in the fields of the theatre, music and plastic arts. The Cultural Centre in Abu Dhabi was provided to further this aim. Similar Cultural Centres and Free Art Training Centres were also provided by the other Emirates.
The Ministry of Sports and Youth established youth organisations to prepare the youth for their role in society by imparting training in civil defence, first aid, environmental protection and social service.
To further improve their knowledge of the world around them, exchange visits have been organised with the youth of other countries through working camps in the Gulf countries, the Arab world and others. Thus the youth of the U.A.E. are being groomed to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
The General Postal Authority of the U.A.E., is issuing a set of commemorative stamps on the occasion of the "National Youth Festival -1993".
