International Day for Monuments and Sites

The Dubai Municipality celebrates on the 18th of April of each year the International Day for Monuments and Sites. The achievements accomplished by the Municipality are crowned in the field of conserving the architectural heritage of Dubai. The celebration for this year coincides with the 200th Anniversary of building AI-Faheidi Fort and the Inauguration of Al Ahmadiya School, built in 1912, which is the oldest school in Dubai.

This stamp features the Logo of the International Day for Monuments and Sites. The holding of an International Day was first suggested during a meeting organized by the International Council on Monuments and Sites-ICOMOS on 18/4/1982 in Hammamet, Tunisia. This suggestion was later approved by the ICOMOS Executive Committee and it was decided to fix the date of April 18 each year an International Day for Monuments and Sites.

This stamp depicts AI-Faheidi Fort, built in 1799, which is the oldest surviving structure in Dubai. The fort once guarded the landward approaches to the town and was also used as a residence of the Ruler until 1896. It represents an important era in the history of Dubai.
