With 1200 competitors representing 80 nations, the 1998 Dubai ISAF World Sailing Championship will be one of the most global sporting events in 1998 and by far the biggest in the region.
The Championship which will encompass nine World Titles, will be run from 2 to 13 March 1998 and is organized by the Dubai International Marine Club. Their beautiful premises with Championship Village, Race Headquarters and boat part all within walking distance and the course areas all close to the boat park, make the event attractive and unique.
A further boost to the Championship was given when the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) decided that the Championship would be the first qualifier for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
The success of the Championship is also due to the great effort the DIMC has put into this event. All competitors will be provided with equal boats, they do not need to bring their own, largely reducing the cost of competing and avoiding any equipment battle. The best competitor rather than the best equipment will win.
Furthermore, the DIMC is building a Championship Village in which competitors can stay at no cost. This unique feature has minimized the costs for the competitors and allowed many small nations to send a team, one of the objectives of the International Federation.
