6th Definitive- Wild Flowers

In the U.A.E. there are various wild flowers divided into two kinds: annual and perennial plants. Such flowers can be used for medical purposes, for grazing, for balancing the temperature and reducing pollution.

Indigofera arabica 25 Fils
A very small, ground-covering plant, restricted to sandy plains and rocky hillsides (wadis). The brick-red flowers are tiny, but can be spotted easily when they cluster together in the heart of the plant.

Centaureum pulchellum 50 Fils
A fine, erect plant with bright pink flowers, growing along wadi banks in moist places.

Lavandula citriodora 75 Fils
The local lavender does not have the perfume smell, but the leaves when rubbed smell like lemon.

Taverniera glabra 1 Dh.
A large erect bush with clusters of pale pink flowers, growing on hillsides of the Hajar mountains.

Convolvulus deserti 150 Fils
This bind weed grows in the sandy desert. Its white flowers are open early in the morning and close when the day becomes hotter.

Capparis spinosa Dhs. 2
A thorny bush with large white flowers, that turn pink and start wilting .a few hours after dawn. The flowerbuds are the capers that can be pickled for consumption

Rumex vesicsrius 250 FIls
The local sorrel is edible and often collected as a favourite salad green

Anagallis arvensis 3 Dhs.
The blue version of the pimpernel is a weed of shady, moist places, growing in fallow fields, and along wadi banks.

Tribulus arabicus 350 Fils
In the deep sands of the Empty Quarter this plant with its showy yellow flowers is one of the few that can survive the harsh climate. Grazing animals are dependent on this plant for nourishment.

Rechardia tingitana Dhs. 5
A small annual composite, with a dark-centered bright yellow flower sitting in the middle of a rosette of leaves.
