The celebration of the 26th National Day of the United Arab Emirates on the 2nd of December, this year, revives once again the hopes and expectations of the people of the Emirates to a more prosperous and bright future which would not have been achieved, had it not been for the wisdom and foresight of H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, President of the U.A.E. and His Brethren, Supreme Council Members, Their Highnesses Rulers of the Emirates, to establish the Union on the 2nd of December, 1971.
This memorable occasion coincides with the preparation of the Federal Environmental Agency and other concerned authorities for the First National Environment Day on 4th February 1998 which will be celebrated under the patronage of H.H. the President under the slogan:
"Emirates and the Environment An Everlasting Commitment and Continuous Efforts"
This occasion is undoubtedly ideal in highlighting the perseverance and hard work which culminated in the country's achievements in the field of environment protection, specially in the areas of agriculture, water supply and waste disposal in addition to housing and town-planning, transport and preservation of naturalhabits.
In recognition and appreciation of the remarkable achievements of H.H. the President, in the field of environment protection, many valuable prizes have been endowed upon His Highness which include "Man of Environment and Development", Prize of "Recognition and Golden Medallion of FAD", Prize of "The Environment", Prize of "The Golden Panda".
